First priority is to get the RGB maps visible colour maps up and running. Elevation and biome can wait a bit. I have a rough plan in my head: store the elevation data in a 1-channel, bit TIFF, slice it up in tiles, and let the browser query the pixels directly. Similar thing for the slope. Biomes can hold themselves in a 1-channel 8-bit image nicely.
I mean, UTFgrids were cool back inbut there have been no developments in that tech lately, and handling elevation data directly in the browser opens up the option to do on-the-fly hillshading, which is always cool. The flashy stuff can be added later. I'll hold off, but will finish making all the tiles.
That way people can download and have access to a mostly working clone of Kerbal Maps while updates are being worked on. I have managed to make the tiles for the slope, color, and sat views for all the bodies. Unfortunately the resulting zip is 2. For those with space to spare on their drives, you can download the package and try and run it locally. This happened earlier this year and it was back in a few days.
It's still down, so I've sent the author an email to see what's up. He and I were working closely and frequently a few months ago on getting the maps updated with the newer biomes and even more zoom levels. Communication stopped from his end at the start of July and haven't been able to raise him since - I hope he just got busy with work and family. If I can't reach him after a week or so, I do have the means to host kerbalmaps. Hopefully he can just get kerbalmaps.

Which isn't fun. So I've been doing other things, that are fun. However the plugin Joel Saik0 passed to me before he went poof might still be of use so I stand ready to assist and hopefully we can get some new map content created still. Maybe updated maps too. I'm kind of new to this amazing game, and started a career to suffer the most along the learning process.
I'm browsing the contracts and have some doubts: 1. There is one contract named: Perform visual surveys of Kerbin. I couldn't find anything about them googling, nothing at all is returned, and I don't know how to locate them to get there. Couldn't find any map out there with locations marked on the map, nor any results for "Eumon's pylon" on the web. Other contracts request flying passengers to locations. Thank you all, guys. Any help will be rewarded by adding a flag with your name at the location for future generations.

I think they're procgen so even if you found the name of the location somewhere else it would probably be a different location than in your game.
You'll need a pilot on board or a drone core to control the ship though. Itinerary is mission based, but you'll either need to do suborbital or orbital flight or even some landings. Just remember, to be "suborbital" a flight needs to be out of the atmosphere, and in an impact trajectory. In the case of Mun for example that'll mean setting your ship in collision course and go back to orbiting once the objective is complete.

I don't really know the full details, except that they were geo-shaded in photoshop or something like that. I'm not really sure how to do it myself. Also although IvanSanchez didn't swing by he did respond to me on twitter. He's got some bust RL stuff at the moment but has definitely almost fully replaced the UTF grid implementation for his version of KerbalMaps.
So damaltor we can continue your work if we want a fallback in case Ivan gets held up indefinitely but know there's a replacement in the works for it. Thanks for the info.
I have created the tile maps for Gael Galileo's Planet Pack down to x resolution and have hacked it into Ivan's Leaflet.
Kerbal demo from his repo and it is working somewhat, however, I think that the directory structure of the KerbalMaps site doesn't match what i have and therefore it is only showing a small portion of the top of the map. Sorted it in the tiles script file and all is working fine now. If you want me to integrate them into the temporary kerbal maps, just give me a hint.

Or something like that. This is just a few projection definitions to have at hand when handling the geotiffs, or setting up mapping services. Not incredibly useful, but nice to have, to keep a common baseline for what the projections and geoids or keoids are. This is a very cool Leaflet plugin, that enables rendering hypsometric tints i.
This means that a web browser can apply different elevation colour ramps on the fly, pretty much like the different colours for elevations in SCANsat work.
If anybody could have a look at the image format used in the TileLayer. GL demos, and now to convert from the bit geotiffs to that format, it would be awesome. This can easily replace UTF grids. UTF grids was cool back inbut no more.
